Michael Smith of RYP Recordings spent his early twenties producing and as a touring musician in various bands, weaving his way around Europe & the US, before finally settling back in London to pursue a career as a producer.

Michael spent the next few years honing his craft, working on early tracks from Wolf Alice and Anteros.

His passion for artist development saw him working with smaller acts like Honey Lung, Low Girl, FLOWVERS, Harvey Jay Dodgeson FAERS and Jerry Williams and working closely with their teams to help build their profiles.

As well as heritage acts like Elvis Costello, The Saints and The Spencer Davis Group, Michael has worked hard to develop a production style that has resonated with DSP’s and radio tastemakers alike.

His work gained regular play from BBC Radio 1, 2, 6 and BBC Introducing from Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Jack Saunders and Annie Mac to as far afield as Triple J in Australia and A Rádio Rock in Brazil. His tracks have amassed millions of streams across Spotify & Apple Music with features in New Music Friday US, UK, Finland, Iceland and Denmark.

This support from acclaimed radio stalwarts, has seen acts he’s worked with play BBC Introducing stages at Reading, live sessions on Radio X and Maida Vale, as well as invitations to play at BBC Introducing Live.

Michael works out of multiple studios across the UK, but generally works out of his own studio, RYP Recordings, in North West London. Locating himself in a purpose built facility with all of his favourite analogue and vintage toys.

Although, he is also never opposed to using modern digital tools to get the desired results, being considerate of keeping within the often tight budgets of emerging talent.
